Protonated nitrogen atoms in SiN ring systems such as 1 are a novelty . The dication of 1 is formed by reaction of the unprotonated parent compound with Al 2 Cl 6 /CH 2 Cl 2 (and a small amount of H 2 O). The counterion is also a novel dianion.
