Noteworthy properties as CH 2 transferring agents are exhibited by the tungsten complexes having the postulated structures 1 and 2 , which are prepared in situ. They are the first tungsten complexes that are suitable for carbonylolefination ( 1 reacts with aldehydes and ketones, 2 preferentially with ketones); they are more stable than the known molybdenum complexes of this kind, and 2 can catalyze olefin metathesis. The solvent has a large effect on all of these reactions.
