An element of the third main group in the oxidation states 2 and 3 is present in the compound Ga 3 Te 3 I 1 , which may be crystallized according to the Bridgman method. The one‐dimensional, macromolecular structural element consists of GaTe 3/5 I tetrahedra with Ga III centers and Ga 2 Te 6/3 units with Ga II centers. Other E 3 Te 3 Hal compounds (E = Ga, In; Hal = Cl, Br, I) have also been synthesized.
