The stable, neutral complexes 1 and 2, containing the dimesitylmethyl(isocyano) radical , are formed via a SET (single electron transfer) mechanism from the corresponding 2‐azaallenylidene complexes. The structure of 1 (violet crystals) was established by X‐ray structure analysis (R = mesityl).
