A puckered four‐membered LuP 2 Li ring is the core of the title compound 1 , which was obtained by reaction of the corresponding di‐μ‐methyl complexes with HPPh 2 , via stepwise substitution of the methyl ligands. The X‐ray structure analysis of 1 has allowed elucidation of the bonding relationships in organolanthanoid‐phosphane compounds, which are of interest as mild agents for R 2 P transfer.
