The largest discrete iodocuprate(I) ion observed so far has been identified in the compound (pyH) 2 [Cu 3 I 5 ]. 36 CuI tetrahedra are linked through common edges to form a highly symmetrical polyanion [Cu 36 I 56 ] 20⊖ with the extremely rare symmetry 432 (O).
