The pyrocatechol complexes 1 are the central intermediates in the synthesis of R 3 SiR′ (R = Et, n Bu; R′ = H, Cl, SiPh 3 , GePh 3 , CH 2 CH = CH 2 ) and R 4 Si (R = CH 2 CH = CH 2 , Ph, CC—CH 3 ) from silica gel. Characteristic of these reactions is that they can be carried out under mild conditions and high yields are obtained.
