The combined representation of experimentally determined crystal structures and calculated periodic potential surfaces is possible with a new program system. It is shown that the zero potential surfaces in particular are topologically very similar to the corresponding periodic minimal surfaces of the same symmetry. The periodic potential surfaces also enable stratements to be made about the properties of crystals.
