Manganese dioxide with both very small and very large surface areas and uniform particle sizes was prepared from Mn(NO 3 ) 2 and KMnO 4 at pH 1 and 2 and at pH 0 (see figure), respectively. A computer controlled the mixing of the reagents so that the potential remained constant. The reagents were used in nearly stoichiometric amounts.
