The formation of bis‐lactones of type 2 from 1 (XH) and CO is catalyzed by Pd II . Substituents on C‐2 and C‐3 are largely tolerated. In comparison, 1 (XAc) forms only open‐chain 1,3‐dienes in the presence of Pd 0 .
