The long‐sought radical cation of carbon tetrachloride has been generated by decarbonylation of Cl 3 CCOCl ⊙⊕ in the gas phase and characterized as the stable isomer Cl 2 CClCl ⊙⊕ . The theoretically predicted properties were experimentally confirmed. The dication CCl   4 2⊕is known.
