In order to finally resolve the controversy over the structure of α‐lithiated sulfones and α‐sulfonyl carbanions , MeSO 2 Ph was lithiated in TMEDA and the product, the title compound, was studied by X‐ray analysis. It is a dimer in which the Li, S, and O atoms form a flat eight‐membered ring. The nearly planar CH 2 S group lies outside the coordination sphere of Li.
