Misinterpretation of CC Bonding through Unusually Large 2 J CC Values—a Caveat for the Use of INADEQUATE‐ 13 C‐NMR Spectroscopy

The determination of the constitution of organic compounds via 13 C‐ 13 C couplings is a relatively new and useful method. Not every coupling constant greater than ca. 25 Hz, howerver, indicates the presence of a CC bond, as found in the case of chlorinated ketones, in particular, cyclobutenone derivatives such as 1 . For 1 , 2 J C ‐2, C ‐4 is 64.1 Hz!
