That p ‐dimethylaminophenylpentazole 1 does in fact contain a five‐membered nitrogen ring in solution at 238–253 K has been demonstrated directly by 15 N‐NMR spectroscopy with natural isotopic abundance. The decomposition of 1 into the azide 2 and N 2 can also be monitored spectroscopically–even with 15 N‐labeled 1 (RMe 2 N).
