The nickelacyclopentane 3 is obtainable in the crystalline state in yields of more than 80% by oxidative addition of two triene molecules 1 to the nickel (0) complex 2 with concomitant CC bond formation. 3 is an intermediate in the synthesis of [4]‐radialene 4 , which is formed in more than 90% yield. (bpy=bipyridyl, cod=1,5‐cyclooctadiene, MA=maleic anhydride.)
