The enzyme deoxyhemerythrin reacts in a completely different manner with N 3 ⊖and NCS ⊖ than the methemerythrin model compounds containing the partial structure 1, L = N,N ′, N ″‐trimethyl‐1,4,7‐triazacyclononane. The [Fe 2 (μ 2 ‐O)(μ‐carboxylato) 2 ] group of the enzyme remains intact, whereas in the model compound the carboxylato bridges and the oxo bridges are replaced.
