Vitamin B 12 is degraded by singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) to the secocobamide 1. This reaction is of interest because of the medicinal and biological role played by 1 O 2 and provides a simple entry to secocorrinoid cleavage products of vitamin B 12 .
