The transformation of polymeric into discrete host‐guest complexes takes place on replacement of a methylene H‐atom in the sulfonium ion of the [18]‐crown‐6 (18C6) complex 1 by a bulky group such as phenyl. The dication of 2 exhibits a sort of sandwich structure (sulfonium ion‐crown ether‐sulfonium ion); the bonding between guest cations on the one hand and crown ethers on the other derives from different H‐bridges; a peculiarity is the formation of the “bifurcated” H‐bridges.
