2‐Mercaptophenol and its mono‐ and dianions are of interest as intermediate members between pyrocatechol and ortho ‐benzenedithiol. Complex 3 contains SC 6 H 4 O 2⊖ ligands. The in‐situ synthesis of 3 can be achieved by coper‐catalyzed atmospheric oxidation of a 1 :3 mixture of 1 and 2.
