Chemical or electrochemical reduction of the binuclear Mo VI complex ion 1 affords the mixed valence Mo VI/V ion 2 , which can be reduced to the Mo V species 3. 2 is the first binuclear μ‐oxo‐bridged Mo VI/V complex. Such systems are under discussion as active centers in the enzymes nitrate reductase as well as sulfite oxidase and xanthine oxidase.
