Ligands which open “upwards” and “downwards” cause the isomerism in the Zr II complexes 1 and 2 . Depending on the conditions, successive treatment of Cp 2 ZrCl 2 with allylMgCl and “butadiene‐Mg” gives pure 1 or a mixture of 1 and 2 . Irradiation of 1 at −40°C converts it almost quantitatively into 2 , which isomerizes to 1 on heating.
