Strong 1,3‐Interaction in 1,2‐Dihydroboretes: Homoborirenes

The first 1,2‐dihydroboretes 1 were prepared via the route shown below. These species are isoelectronic with cyclobutenyl cations. 13 C‐ and 11 B‐NMR data reveal a strong 1,3‐interaction, which—by analogy with homocyclopropenylium ions justifies the formulation homoborirenes (R 1 R 2 Me; R 1 H, R 2 = CMe 3 ; R 1 R 2 Ph).
