Important information about the mechanism of redox reactions can be obtained from investigations of the electrochemiluminescence (ECL). So far, very few studies of this kind have been carried out on metal complexes. The ECL specrtrum of [Pt 2 (P 2 H 2 O 5 ) 4 ] 4⊖ (A 4⊖ ) in conjunction with other observations allows, inter alia, conclusions to be drawn about the PtPt bond order in A 3⊖ , A 4⊖ , and A 5⊖ , about the half‐lives of the oxidized (A 3⊖ ) and the reduced complex (A 5⊖ ), and about the redox potentials.
