As the largest CuS cluster known to date , [Cu 12 S 8 ] 4⊖ occupies a special position. It is the first copper( I ) complex containing exclusively sulfidic ligands that has been isolated. The Ph 4 P salt is formed on reaction of CuCl 2 ·2H 2 O with EtS ⊖ and Li 2 S in the presence of Ph 4 PBr.
