Two different chromophoric molecular units are contained in the novel compounds 1 . Each of the two molecular units can be selectively excited (in each case leading to opening of a five‐membered ring) by irradiation using light of different wavelengths. For example: 1 . R 1 = CH 3 CO, R 1′ = CO 2 CH 3 , R 2 = R 3 = H, X = zero.
