The family of neutral and ionic S m N n compounds is extended by the title compound 1 , prepared from (NSCl) 3 and FeCl 3 . The radical cation S 4 N 4 ⊕forms a puckered eight membered ring. The possibility that [S 4 N 4 ] 2 ⊕ [FeCl 4 ] 2⊖ , rather than 1 , is present could be ruled out.
