Methyl‐ and ethylsulfur pentafluoride readily react at low temperatures with AsF 5 or SbF 5 . An NMR spectroscopic investigation of the system H 3 CSbF 5 /SbF 5 , in SO 2 showed that primarily the title compound is formed at −70°C; it rapidly decomposes on heating. H 3 CSF   4 + SbF   6 −and H 5 C 2 SF   4 + SbF   6 −could find use as strong alkylating agents.
