Molybdenum‐sulfur clusters are of topical interest as model substances in bio‐inorganic chemistry. The readily soluble Mo 3 S 7 ‐cluster chelates ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) have been synthesized for the first time from Mo(CO) 6 and R 2 P(S)–S 2 –P(S)R 2 , R= Et or nPr. An X‐ray structure analysis of ( 1 ), a 1 :1 electrolyte, has been carried out. Further functionalization via suitable sub‐stituents R would seem to be possible.
