The reversible formation of a CC bond in nickel complexes such as (1) has been studied, for example, in the reaction of (1) , R = C 6 H 5 , with CO. At 80 °C (2) is formed, at 150 °C it decomposes again to (1) . CO (> 10 bar) liberates the cyclobutendione derivative from (2) .
