1,6‐Dithiocyanato‐ (2a) and 1,6‐Diiodocycloheptatriene (2b) —both versatile, useful synthons–can be prepared photochemically from benzocyclopropene (1) with (SCN) 2 and I 2 , respectively, in over 60% yield; benzyl derivatives are formed as by‐products.
