Can the alkylaluminum compound in Ziegler‐Natta catalysts be replaced by asi lylaluminum compound? TiCl 4 /Al(SiMe 3 ) 3 ·Et 2 O (5:2), for example, has proven to be a suitable catalyst for the polymerization of ethylene. This is the first catalyst in which no transition metal‐carbon but a transition metal‐silicon bond might be present, at least in the first polymerization step.
