σ‐Alkyliron porphyrins, both with Fe II as well as with Fe III can be generated from carbeneiron ( II ) porphyrins by cyclovoltammetric reduction. (TPP) Fe(HCCPh 2 )—a σ‐vinyl‐Fe II complex–was also independently synthesized from (TPP)Fe(ClO 4 ) and BrMgCHCPh 2 ; its properties resemble those of the product of the (2e + H ⊕ )‐reduction of (TPP) Fe(:CCPh 2 ).
