In the extremely sensitive polymethylated erbium complex (1) , the central erbium atom is surrounded by six monohapto ‐bonded methyl groups in a distorted octahedral configuration. The methyl groups are bridged pairwise by a lithium atom, which is co‐ordinated to the two nitrogen atoms of the N,N,N ′, N ′‐tetramethylethylenediamine ( = tmen) ligand.
