Stable trans ‐cycloheptene derivative (2a) and (2b) are formed by deamination of (1) in methanol in the presence of AgClO 4 and AgO 3 SCF 3 . The expected cycloadducts, e.g. (3) , are formed by reaction of (2a) with dienes, e.g. 1,3‐cyclohexadiene.
