Stabilization of the M 4 cluster in M 4 (CO) 12 carbonyl complexes by the “tripod” ligand HC(PPh 2 ) 3 is accomplished in almost quantitative yield with elimination of 3 CO. In the case of Co 2 Rh 2 (CO) 12 , the ligand adds only to the CoRh 2 faces (and not to the Co 2 Rh faces).
