A general entry to cyclopentadienylamines (3) is provided by the reaction of (1) with the hydroxylamine derivative (2) . On reaction with n BuLi, (3b) forms the isolable salt Li[C 5 H 4 NMe 2 ], which gives a diaminoferrocene with FeCl 2 .
