A new catalyst for the water gas shift reaction is metallic selenium/platinum black. Conversion of CO into CO 2 was at most 43% after 20 h at 200°C/ ca. 30 bar CO. Both these elements are necessary for the catalytic formation of H 2 and CO 2 . The reaction could proceed via H 2 Se: H 2 Se/platinum black is also suitable for use as a catalyst.
