“Organic metals” from naphthalene, fluoroanthene, perylene , etc. in the form of the radical cation salts [arene 2 ] ⊙ ⊕ X ⊖ (X = PF 6 , AsF 6 , SbF 6 , BF 4 ) can be generated as shiny black crystals by anodic oxidation of arenes in the presence of the anions. Species of this type were previously limited to heterocycles and compounds containing hetero atoms.
