The products of protonation of thioketones, ketones, and two selenoketones by superacids have been compared by 13 C‐NMR spectroscopy. The effects detected can only be explained in terms of significant participation of the mercaptocarbenium form (A) . The analogous form is known to play no role in the case of ketones.
