The PH 2 Bi group possesses a combination of favorable properties that is so far unique: Ph 2 Bi (like other organo‐heavy metal groups) stabilizes a carbanionic center; the alkyl‐Bi bond in alkyldiphenylbismuthanes is cleaved selectively by chlorine and bromine below 0°C; Ph 2 Bi can be replaced by H or Li under mild conditions if the resulting Li compound is stabilized.
