As potential catalysts for the photochemical cleavage of water , attention has been focused on compounds of type (1) , especially (1a) , n = 2, M = Ni, R = Ph, z = 0. Irradiation (λ ≥ 290 nm) of (1) in neutral THF/H 2 O solution does indeed produce H 2 , part of it coming from the THF.
