The bond lengths in the carbyne complex [(CO) 5 CrCNEt 2 ]BF 4 suggest considerable participation of the resonance form ( B ). The complex is a valuable intermediate, for it affords carbene complexes even with weak nucleophiles. A new example of the utility of this approach is provided by the reaction of the intermediate with KAsPh 2 to give (CO) 5 CrC(AsPh 2 )NEt 2 .
