Open‐chain 2‐deoxyhexoses bearing difunctional ethylboranediyl protecting groups are accessible in a single step from the corresponding (cyclic) unprotected 2‐deoxyhexoses. (1a) is in equilibrium with ≲20% of the 3,4:5,6‐isomer; (2a) is accompained by ca. 15% of the 3,5:4,6‐isomer. (The bold point symbolizes thegroup.)
