The heterocubane derivative (2) , R = t Bu, generated by partial hydrolysis of the “open cage” (1) is one of the few examples of cubanes having a skeleton made up of three elements. Structural proof is provided, inter alia , by the “isosteric character” of the AlMe 3 adduct with the (SN‐ t Bu) 4 cage.
