Hydrocarbons can be obtained from thiols at room temperature/−78 °C with the new reduction system given below. The procedure is suitable for aromatic, benzylic, and aliphatic thiols; CoCl 2 can be used instead of FeCl 2 . Other chlorides are less effective.
