The novel phosphorus “double ylides”, (3) , Y = CH 2 , (CH 2 ) 2 , PPh, are potential chelating agents. Their formation can be interpreted as proceeding via the title compound (2) , which is to be regarded as the lithium salt of a phosphorane anion on the basis of its reaction behavior.
