The optimization of a heterogeneously catalyzed gas‐phase reaction by PE spectroscopy is demonstrated for the production of F 3 CBr, an extinguishing agent used in automatic fire extinguishing installations. A specially developed (PE spectroscopic) gas‐analysis technique permits screening of catalysts (and conditions). The best results were obtained with FeCl 3 /KBr/activated charcoal.
