The 1,2‐addition of R 2 Al groups to diphenylacetylene can also be accomplished as a photoreaction. Depending upon R and the temperature, trialkylaluminum compounds (R 3 Al) n and Ph 2 C 2 afford the heterocycle (2) [ via (1) ] and/or the trans ‐adduct (3) . The photoisomerization (3) → (1) does not occur.
