The orientation defect model can be used for quantitative estimates and for understanding the properties of H‐bonded liquids, such as water and alcohol. The defect concentrations can be determined by vibrational spectroscopy, and the applicability of the approximation procedure derives from considering H‐bonds as chemical equilibria. Possible extensions of the simple model are critically discussed.
