Permethylsilicon rings having 5 through 35 members arise on slow addition of Me 2 SiCl 2 to Na/K alloy in boiling tetrahydrofuran. After removal of the major products (Me 2 Si) 5 and (Me 2 Si) 6 (recrystallization and fractional sublimation) the cyclic polysilanes can be detected by high pressure liquid chromatography.
